When to Call
- Loss of consciousness or unresponsiveness
- Severe or uncontrolled bleeding
- Chest pain, breathlessness, or signs of stroke
- Serious accident or major injury
- Complicated labour or heavy pregnancy bleeding
- Suspected poisoning, snakebite or severe burn
- Any situation that feels life-threatening
What Information to Give
- Your exact location / nearest landmark
- Nature of the emergency
- Number of people affected and their approximate age
- Whether the person is conscious and breathing
- A callback number
What Not to Do
- Do not delay calling to try home remedies first
- Do not move a seriously injured person unnecessarily
- Do not give food or water to an unconscious person
- Do not drive a critical patient yourself if an ambulance is available
- Do not apply ice, oil or toothpaste to burns
